01The task
We were tasked with creating a design system, improving and documenting existing and new components
It was necessary to map out each component and create sub-components for each of them. We also recreated all the states for the interactive elements of the website.
02Unified source of truth
Unifying the components wasn’t easy — they were based on three different systems, and some were bespoke to the product.
To address this challenge, we chose Material Design 3 as the foundation for the system. For elements derived from other systems or created exclusively for this product using standalone styles, we implemented a token structure and decided to manage them as local variables.
03Two audiences
One website, two experiences.
What may appear simple at first glance is, in fact, a complex product: a massive repository integrated with a dashboard to manage other digital products. Creating a system for both is not an easy challenge.
04Prototypes
Everybody loves prototypes, so we made all component states interactive.
This approach reduces the time designers spend creating prototypes, and by building these micro-interactions directly into the core library, we ensure both quality and standardization.
05Tokens
Tokens for control and efficiency.
Every color, type and spacing decision lives as a token, so the library can be tuned in one place and every component follows.
06Impact
Finally… the impact of this system
The most important part for some of you 😅
Reflection
This project was a true milestone in my career. As a Senior Visual Designer at Huge Inc., I contributed nearly 40% of the process to document and standardize the Chrome Web Store design system for Google as an external workforce member. It was a breakthrough moment for me, fulfilling a dream I had since childhood of working for Google. Few designers get to work on a product at this scale, and fewer still on the system underneath it.
