01The system
When I arrived, the team was creating a system that could adapt to any of the Dow Jones brands and products.
02Improving
Impressive system,
but not enough yet
I arrived to improve components and document them. I had to tweak some of them to improve their responsiveness, behavior, construction, and properties.
It wasn’t easy modifying components used in thousands of screens and files; it could be overwhelming at times, but… I did it!
03Tokens
Tokens & variables
for everything
The most impressive aspect of the Unified Design System is its ability to adapt all components to different brands in seconds thanks to the tokens applied as variables to all elements.
04A new product
A bigger challenge came when, after getting used to the system, I was part of the design of a new product.
I worked with a great team, where my role was to assess the UX team’s designs and translate the built elements into reusable and scalable components.
The design team developed a customizable financial news tool in collaboration with two great players: Yomiuri Shimbun from Japan and Dow Jones in the US. In this process, I worked with the design systems team, where I was responsible for reviewing UX proposals, suggesting components, and collaborating on the creation of new components that would become part of the Unified Design System and be reused across future products.
05Impact
Finally… the impact of this system
I know, you love to see the numbers 😏
Reflection
Beyond the numbers, my time at Dow Jones was a dream opportunity that allowed me to collaborate with people from across the globe, from the US to Europe and Latin America. I contributed to a design system implemented on a global scale across more than 10 products, which challenged me to raise my standards and hone my craft. This experience not only strengthened my expertise in design systems but also equipped me to deliver scalable, consistent, and high-quality user experiences for diverse markets.
